Terrazzo
What is Terrazzo?
No wonder they say: Everything new is a well-forgotten old! The world does not reinvent the wheel again, it only improves it! So you can say about anything, including the mosaic floors of Terrazzo.
Terrazzo Mosaic floors, or else they are called Venetian mosaics, is a unique material with a huge potential due to the variety of materials used as fillers, colours, drawings, which have wide application in interiors and allow to realize the most daring design solutions.
Terrazzo floors are a thin-layer system that is not inferior to the qualities of a concrete floor. They are also strong and durable, have high wear resistance and are suitable (for large and small construction projects): industrial premises, shopping centers, hypermarkets, warehouses, hangars, boutiques, hotels, restaurants and offices.
VARIETY OF TERRAZZO FLOORS
Looking at the photo of the terrazzo floors, it can be seen that they can have a different appearance. Also, this coating, depending on the type of binder component, acquires special properties. On this basis, the following varieties of packing mixtures are distinguished:
- Based on cement. Such floors are laid by analogy with conventional concrete. In this case, the thickness of the coating is 50 mm or more. To increase the strength of such structures can be reinforced. For their arrangement, usually large fillers are used, whose diameter is 20 mm or more. Concrete for laying these coatings can be produced mechanically using mortar blocks. This way you can significantly increase the productivity of the work, which is important in the presence of large volumes. After the grinding of the formed surface is completed, it is usually treated with a polyurethane impregnation. It provides additional protection against the negative impact of a variety of aggressive substances, improves the aesthetic properties of the surface.
- Polymer cement coating. In this case, Portland cement and a variety of polymer additives are used as binders. With a polymer-cement floor system, a much smaller thickness, which is at least 15 mm, can be achieved. The average filler size is no more than 10 mm. Its diameter is limited by the thickness of the coating. Polymerconcrete for the construction of high-strength surfaces is prepared directly on site with the help of special concrete mixers. Final finishing can occur in several ways - with the help of polymer impregnation or polishing.
- Polymer concrete coating. In this case, various polymers are used as binders. Most often, polyurethane or epoxy compounds are used. At the device of a polymer concrete coating it is possible to count on its small thickness - from 2 mm. When preparing the packing mixture as fillers, colored quartz sand is used (the diameter of the grains is about 0.5 mm). When you use polymer coatings, you often use a variety of decorative elements - glitter, chips, flock, LED parts, etc. Finishing of surfaces is done with a transparent compound.
ECONOMICITY

TERRAZZO - FULL ENVIRONMENTAL AND NATURAL MATERIAL.
If you look from the point of view of green technologies, then there are no surfaces that could be compared to terrazzo. The system for the production of terrazzo meets the most stringent environmental standards.
DURABILITY AND STRENGTH TERRAZZO.
Terrazzo floors have a compressive strength of about 35.15 kg per square centimetre. Terrazzo surrounds us for many centuries; some terrazzo floors created almost 10,000 years ago still exist in Europe and the Middle East today.
The fact that these floors have survived to our day in good condition, is a vivid confirmation of the excellent strength and durability of this flooring. With the help of modern technologies and the appearance of epoxy resins in terrazzo, modern mosaic floors become even more stable and durable.
HYPPOALLERGENIC PROPERTIES OF TERRAZZO FLOORS.
This is a non-porous system that does not support microbial growth and does not allow moisture to accumulate, absorbs water in a 1/10 ratio, which results in an abnormally high resistance to staining of the entire floor covering.
LOW EXPENSES ON TERRAZZO FLOOR.
Unlike other floor coverings, such as tiles or parquet, terrazzo floors do not need replacing almost never, even if they are located in rooms with intensive movement.
The technology of laying terrazzo allows you to create a seamless surface that does not allow the accumulation of dirt. The combination of several factors such as low maintenance, non-porous surface, no cracks, high resistance to surface wear, used for terrazzo floor installation, creates an almost permanent floor solution that quickly pays off and serves you for a long time.

ADVANTAGES OF TERRAZZO
-
such a floor can be executed as one-color or multi-color;
-
over time, the surface does not lose its aesthetic qualities;
-
due to the possibility of incorporating a variety of additives (glass, mother of pearl, sparkles, pigments, mineral crumbs, river stone, etc.) into the composition of the laying mixture, almost any color combination can be achieved;
-
when installing the coating, it is possible to use a special fiber-optic technology, which makes it possible to create a real work of art;
-
in the process of laying the floor, a solid, strong (compressive strength exceeds 70-80 MPa) and wear-resistant (to abrasive, dynamic loads) surface is created;
-
ability to effectively counteract significant temperature differences and thermal shock (up to + 120 ° C);
-
high chemical resistance. The formed surface is not destroyed under the influence of various alkalis, acid salts (in diluted form);
-
water resistance, which allows to operate in rooms that are constantly exposed to water;
-
sufficient airtightness (varies from absolutely tight to vapor permeable, which is determined by the operational requirements for the room);
-
lack of a large number of preparatory operations before laying concrete terrazzo.
-
Relative transparency
-
Absence of internal inclusions
-
Hygienic and decorative
-
Heat and frost resistance
-
Ecological cleanliness
-
Versatility when used in the decoration of premises longevity

CARE OF FLOORS FROM TERRATZZO.
One pulls the other: the absence of porous surfaces, as well as the absorption of water on the surface affects the quality of the floor covering. Therefore, modern terrazzo floors require only minimal cleaning processes, without the need for aggressive chemicals.
